On the 05th of December in Nairobi, Kenya, leaders, and delegates from food and beverage companies across the continent gathered at the Sarit Expo Center to see who would walk away with the Foodex (Food Industry Excellence) Awards trophy recognizing them for outstanding achievements this year across the numerous award categories.
As the evening progressed Nutripro was declared the milled, cereals and pulses product of the year – an award given to Tropikal Brands Afrika alongside nominees like National Foods Zimbabwe which manufactures Pearlenta Mealie Meal, Mjengo Ltd. which manufactures NuVita Cereos and Capwell Industries Ltd. which manufactures Soko Baby Weaning Composite Flour. As Victoria Kutima – Business Development Manager rose up to the stage to receive the award on behalf of Tropikal Brands Afrika she expressed the honor and gratitude this inspires them as an organization and their zeal to achieve more through continuous value addition to the everyday life of the Eastern Africa consumers.
“At Tropikal brands Afrika we keep abreast with the changing consumer need states i.e. health consciousness that has led to a shift from plain processed foods to more natural, nutritive, wholesome, affordable, Aflatoxin free & fortified foods that meet the nutritional needs of the family. Nutripro porridge brand speaks to these needs” said the Head of Marketing – Simon Kabue.
Later on Africa Improved Foods (AIF) – a public-private partnership involving DSM, Government of Rwanda, IFC, CDC Group and FMO located in the Special Economic Zone in Rwanda was declared the sustainability initiative of the year for its work with local farmers in maize sourcing and quality improvement. In this category, AIF was nominated alongside Coca-Cola Beverages Africa, Bio food products and Kenya Breweries Ltd. with each being nominated twice for different initiatives.
Doriane Nzorubara – Head of Strategy and Programs at AIF stepped up to the stage to receive the only platinum prize in the sustainability category rewarding AIF’s value chain centric initiatives which in turn helps the farmers increase the quality and value of their yield and help companies’ source locally.
The beginning of 2019 birthed the partnership between Africa Improved Foods and Tropikal Brands Afrika on the production of the latter’s Nutripro Family Porridge which can now be found in stores across Kenya. In the quest to give the East African consumer flour (NutriPro) milled from high quality graded grains with vast nutritional value through unique ingredient combination fortified with 12 Vitamins,3 Minerals and Proteins packed in a hygienic moisture-free premium pack that keeps the flour fresh till use. Tropikal Brands partnered with Africa Improved foods to tap into their highly advanced milling technology. This is the third partnership of this nature Africa Improved Foods has undertaken as it partners with WFP to produce Super Cereal that is distributed in relief camps across Kenya, Uganda and South Sudan and The Rwandan Ministry of Health to produce Shisha Kibondo which is distributed to vulnerable women and children in Rwanda in a bid to fight stunting and malnutrition.
