The AIF laboratory is one of the best in the country, it is recognized by National and International standards as a Food testing laboratory. It also offers testing services to manufacturing companies on a variety of products including Food products and water.

Our laboratory has been designated by MINICOM through Rwanda Standard Board (RSB) to offer testing services of food products and in addition it has been accredited with ISO17025!

Accreditation is a formal recognition of being qualified to perform an activity, in this case, offering testing services.

AIF Testing Laboratory was granted accreditation status after fulfilling requirements specified in ISO 17025, General requirement for Competence of Testing and Calibration Laboratories. The testing laboratory was accredited by Kenya National Accreditation Services (KENAS) on 30th, September 2019.

What does it mean to be Accredited?

Being accredited on ISO/IEC 17025 enables laboratories to demonstrate that they operate competently and generate valid results, thereby promoting confidence in their work both nationally and around the world. It also helps facilitate cooperation between laboratories and other bodies by generating wider acceptance of results between stakeholders or institutions and countries. Test reports and certificates can be accepted from one country to another without the need for further testing, which, in turn, improves international trade.

Accreditation Process

AIF testing laboratory was accredited after a step by step thorough assessment by Laboratory assessors and it was proven that the laboratory quality management system fulfills requirements as per the requirements of ISO/IEC 17025.

Key assessment elements included:

– Competence of personnel involved in testing (Education, training, experience)

– Selection of method used in testing (Validated before use)

– Equipment used in testing (Appropriate and calibrated according to the schedule of instrument calibration)

– Sampling methodologies (Representative and reflect the real picture of the population)

– Reporting of results (Assured before being reported)

– Good Service to the customer & Handling of complaints are in place and properly managed.

– Document control

– Internal audits (The laboratory conducts periodic internal audits for the purpose of continuous improvement of the system)

Chemistry parameters

– Total aflatoxin in maize grains, maize flour, fortified blended foods

– Iron in soya flour, maize flour, fortified blended food

– Moisture content in fortified blended foods

– Crude fiber in fortified blended food

– Crude fat in maize grains, maize flour, fortified blended foods

– Total ash in soya flour, maize flour, fortified blended foods

Microbiology parameters

– Enumeration of coli in foods and feed

– Enumeration of Staphylococcus aureus in foods and feed

– Enumeration of Coliform in food and feed

– Enumeration of Yeast and Molds in food and feed
