The annual Rwanda International Trade Fair always attracts thousands of people from Rwanda and beyond. This year was even more special given that the Private Sector Federation was marking 20 years of organizing the remarkable event where businesses come together to showcase what they have to offer for the Rwandan market.

This year’s event that ran from August 22nd to September 6th, clearly had more color, thanks to the inaugural appearance of Africa Improved Foods Rwanda (AIF). It was a good opportunity for us to showcase our range of nutritious products while at the same time harvesting valuable feedback from clients and the general public. The attractive stand was a magnet for many visitors who dropped by to witness the finest porridge cooking sessions they had ever come across.

Others simply walked in and bought the products in that ‘I already know your products are great’ manner. Some took time to taste the products from the stand before making up their minds. The stand also had a large screen showing videos about our products as well as a kitchen section where the magic happened. With everything at the stand being so well-ordered, it was hard to tell that we were doing this for the very first time.

It was, therefore, no wonder that during the opening ceremony, the (now former) Prime Minister Anastase Murekezi made a stop to see the products that were on display. It was an honor hosting Mr. Anastase given that he was not stopping at all the stands but ours was one of the few that caught his eye.

We are committed to improving our products to better suit the market and that was no different on the expo grounds. As a way to include our consumers in the production process, we conducted a mini research to find out what people preferred to have in their porridge. Visitors were asked to choose from products that were on display in different jars. Each jar contained a different product: sorghum, soya, whole wheat, millet and maize flours. Visitors could make their choice by dropping a bean in the jar of their preferred flour. We also had a promotion going on and lots of goodies to give to the lucky ones.

It is not merely pride when we say that our stand was one of the best. During the closing ceremony of the Rwanda Expo as it is popularly known, we were awarded a prize for being the Best Exhibitor in the Agro Processing category.

We are dedicated to manufacturing high quality and nutritious complementary foods for pregnant women, breastfeeding mothers as well as young infants. We are already looking forward to the next events where we can showcase products to Rwanda and the rest of the world.
